How to record screen and webcam at the same time on macOS

For a simple screen recording on macOS, you can use QuickTime Player or an open-source app called Kap. But if you want to attach your video from the webcam simultaneously with the screen recording?

Kap has a plugin for that, but unfortunately, it did not work for me, and it seems that the author abandoned the project.

ScreenFlow seems too complex for my rare needs. And I wouldn’t say I liked that Loom automatically uploads the video to the cloud.

Use QuickTime Player bundled with macOS.

To initialize webcam window:

  1. Open QuickTime Player.
  2. Click on “File > New Movie Recording”
  3. Minimize the new window with your webcam video and put it anywhere you wish.
  4. Click on “Window > Float on Top” to fix it at the top of the screen.

And then just start a screen recording session:

  1. Click on “File > New Screen Recording”
  2. Configure the area to record, and do not forget about the camera window (do not hide it accidentally).

I like to solve problems with standard tools, and I hope the post helped you.
